Assessment Description

As an individual who will be in a leadership role within  organization, having a strong working knowledge of the organizational policies and regulations and the legal basis on which they were established is an essential component of legal practice. Additionally, implementing and upholding designated policies and regulations by leading with personal character that reflects practical wisdom and ethical decision-making processes are in the best interest of all stakeholders, and fostering human flourishing is also crucial.

Obtain a copy of the policy and regulations manuals for the organization for which you currently work or are most interested in working or for your local school district. Carefully review the manuals and in a 500-750 word reflection, address the following:

  • Policies and regulations are typically derived from federal legal decisions. Select two policies or regulations from your organization’s manuals and research a minimum of two federal cases that support and could have driven the policies/regulations. Share your findings by summarizing the court cases and including a link to each. Include a discussion about key elements of the case law that you see applied in the wording of each policy/regulation.
  • Imagine that you are in a leadership position within the organization and have been asked to review the current policies and regulations. Using what you learned from the “Sources of Law” from Chapter 2 in Law and Ethics in Educational Leadership, the other topic Resources, and your own research, discuss the sources of law you would most likely consult in your review and explain how you would use case law to help you ensure that the policies and regulations are compliant with current laws.
  • As you think about your current or future leadership role within the organization consider the Christian worldview perspective, “Statement on the Integration of Faith and Work” and “Canyon Center for Character Education Academic Program Competencies.” Explain how you can uphold the organizational policies and regulations by leading with personal character that reflects practical wisdom and ethical decision-making processes that are in the best interest of all stakeholders and foster human flourishing. Provide a specific example that illustrates a real-world example of you as a legal and ethical leader.

Support the assignment with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
