As laws and regulations evolve, so too must the ethical frameworks that guide our actions in handling data. At the core of this discussion lie the questions: Is the use of data by companies and institutions aligned with ethical principles, and are these principles integral to their core values?

An organization’s mission statement defines its purpose and values. Embedded within this statement should be a commitment to ethically managing data in a way that reflects an understanding of the importance of transparency, fairness, and accountability in data practices.

In this module’s discussion, you will select one mission statement from the list in the Organization Mission Statements document, located in the resource section of this module.

In your initial post, analyze the mission statement and discuss the following key elements:

·
Industry and Data Collection: Identify your chosen organization’s industry, and provide examples of the types of data it may collect and store. Reflect on whether the type of information collected aligns with the organization’s mission statement.

·
Ethical Data Handling and Risk Mitigation: Discuss why ethical data handling is essential for the organization, drawing connections to its mission statement.

· Consider the tradeoffs involved in prioritizing ethical practices, including potential risks and benefits.

· How could transparency and explainability mitigation strategies help support the success of your selected organization’s mission?

·
Guidance for Ethical Decision Making: How could the mission statement inform actions that prioritize fairness, transparency, and mitigating bias in data practices for your chosen organization?
