Professional dispositions are the values, commitments, and professional ethics that

influence behaviors toward students, families, colleagues, and communities. These

dispositions are influential qualities that effective school counselors should have.

Additionally, professional dispositions affect student learning, motivation, and

development as well as a school counselor’s professional growth.

Part 1: Dispositions Self-Assessment Survey

After reviewing the “Professional Dispositions of Learners,” complete the “Professional

Dispositions Self-Assessment Survey” located in the Class Resources.

Part 2: Video Submission

Based on your understanding of your dispositions, respond to the following questions

in a 3-5 minute Zoom video submission:

 What qualities, behaviors, and values are indicative of a professional school

counselor? What standards guide your thinking and actions?

 What dispositions do you recognize as strengths that will make you a

successful school counselor?

 How do the dispositions demonstrate your ability to understand other

cultures, genders, and learning differences to build stronger relationships

with students and families?

 What dispositions do you find as areas of growth as you enter the school as

a first-year school counselor?

 How do you anticipate using feedback from your annual performance

evaluations, observations, and data on student performance to adjust your

dispositions and teaching practices to benefit learning?

Show professionalism in your speech and appearance.

Refer to the Zoom information located in the Topic Resources to complete your

recording.

At the bottom of the self-assessment survey, be sure to include the link to your Zoom

video.

A transcript of your video is not required.
