Case Study Paper Assignment Instructions

Overview

Through this paper, you will demonstrate your conceptual comprehension and clinical intervention skills by identifying and describing diagnostic criteria based on the disorders studied in this course. You will create a hypothetical case of a patient who is presenting with 2
psychological disorders and provide a detailed treatment plan highlighting the application of evidence-based interventions in the treatment of the disorders. You will include a detailed background of the patient, his or her symptoms, diagnoses, and a proposed session-by-session treatment plan.

Instructions

General Requirements:

Please apply the following guidelines to your paper:

Length:
The
Case Study Paper Assignment must include an APA formatted title page and reference page, plus 10–12 pages of text.

Sources:
Identify the source of any/all information that is not considered common knowledge with an APA-formatted citation and corresponding reference. The DSM-V should be cited, as well as at least two peer-reviewed studies/journal articles published within the past five years. Direct quotes from resources are not to exceed 15% of the body of the paper. Concepts should be primarily discussed and summarized via your own analysis of the content.

Mechanics:
Please be sure to check your work carefully for errors in sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Use APA-formatted headings, running header, indentations, and spacing to organize your content and provide structure to your paper.

Content Requirements:

Please include the following sections in your paper:

Introduction: Provide a brief introduction of the patient describing the context and symptoms that she/he is presenting. Then, describe any physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms the patient may express related to the symptoms.

Clinical History: In this section, discuss the patient’s background history including information such as his/her family of origin, educational history, occupational history, family psychiatric history, patient psychiatric history (including any inpatient or outpatient therapy), drug and alcohol history, family and social relationships, life stressors, future goals, and present living arrangements. This section provides an opportunity to present the narrative of the patient’s life history that has led up to his or her current situation. It must build a case that results in his or her specific diagnoses noted in the following section.

Diagnoses:
In this section, briefly describe the patient’s diagnoses for both disorders based upon DSM-V criteria. Explain how you clinically justify these diagnoses based on how the patient’s symptoms meet the diagnostic criteria.

Rationale: This is the section where you will demonstrate your clinical competency skills at a master’s level. You are to describe the theoretical framework that makes your case for the treatment modality and detailed treatment plan you’ve developed for your patient. You will reference 2 empirically evidenced studies/journal articles that support your rationale for the specific treatment protocol along with the reference to the textbook. Further, you will discuss any overlapping symptoms between the 2 disorders (differential diagnoses) and note how you will address them in your treatment protocol. You will also discuss the rationale for the number of sessions you will use in your treatment plan to treat the disorders based on the research literature recommendations.

Treatment Protocol:
Provide a session-by-session outline describing the type of behavioral interventions you will use in each session. (Note: You
do not have to write out dialogue for this section.) You must note the objective and provide an analysis and brief description of your behavioral intervention for each session.

Discussion:
In this section, briefly summarize the case and discuss how you addressed each of the 2 disorders in your treatment protocol. You will note any overlapping symptoms that were addressed and how that was accommodated.

References:
Reference page must be in current APA format.

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
